Summary
"Investigation of an investigational treatment for patients with advanced solid tumor or metastatic solid tumor. Research is being conducted into the new drug CyPep-1 as a monotherapy, and as a combination therapy with pembrolizumab. This study investigates how safe the new drug CyPep-1 is when injected into tumors and whether it is effective when the drug CyPep-1 is administered alone (monotherapy). Or if CyPEP-1 is administered in combination with pembrolizumab (combination therapy).
CyPep-1 is a small molecule (peptide) that was developed in a laboratory. CyPep-1 binds to the tumour cells and changes their outer edge (membrane). This change causes the contents to leak out of the cell and the cell eventually dies. This leakage spurs the body's immune system to kill more tumor cells in the same area. Because CyPep-1 is small, CyPep-1 is injected into the tumor to get as close as possible to the tumor cells. This way, CyPep-1 does not have to go through the entire body to reach the tumor.
In this study, CyPep-1 will be injected for the first time in subjects with an advanced stage in a particular type of cancer. In previous research, CyPep-1 has been tested as a cream. This study will also test the combination therapy of CyPep-1 with another drug, called pembrolizumab, for the first time. Pembrolizumab is a standard treatment for patients with advanced cancer. Pembrolizumab is a drug that activates the immune system. Tumor cells can send blocking signals to the immune system, preventing the immune system from attacking the tumor cells. Pembrolizumab inhibits these blocking signals. As a result, the immune system becomes active again and can kill the tumor cells. It is expected that the immune system will receive an extra boost if CyPep-1 and pembrolizumab are combined. In addition, it is being investigated whether CyPep-1 can also be safely injected into metastases in the liver."
